
What binaural beats are — physically
When two slightly different frequencies are presented separately to each ear, the brain may perceive a beat at the frequency difference — classic description by Oster.[1] This is a central nervous system phenomenon, not a magic frequency injected into tissue.

Clinical and experimental findings
Chaieb et al. reviewed auditory beat stimulation effects on cognition and mood — some small positive findings, inconsistent protocols, need for larger RCTs.[2] Padmanabhan et al. reported reduced preoperative anxiety with binaural beat audio in a prospective trial — one context where passive listening showed measurable benefit.[3] NCCIH and complementary medicine overviews classify many beat-stimulation claims as preliminary.[4][7]

What is not supported
Broad claims that delta beats cure sleep disorders, beta beats replace ADHD medication, or gamma beats reverse dementia exceed current replicated human trial evidence. Entrainment at 40 Hz is a separate active research line (see gamma article) — not the same as consumer binaural beat playlists.[27][47]

Why this supports Sound Bubbles — not just “any ambient app”
Most ambient apps deliver one file. The studies above rarely study “a loop.” They study continuous floors against irregular noise, unintelligible speech against memory tasks, nature scenes against stress markers, spatial streams against glued mashups, and slow environmental change against habituation.[8][13][21][22][23]

Limits, safety, and honest uncertainty
We do not claim Sound Bubbles replaces CBT-I, tinnitus counselling, ADHD care, paediatric guidance, or migraine treatment.[16][17] What the product does offer is a listening architecture that matches how hearing and attention actually work: layered sources, spatial distance, and slow change instead of one brittle loop.[18][19]
